Welcome to the web pages for the Language and Learning Unit

The Language and Learning Unit (LLU) provides a range of services for prospective students, current Queen Mary students and members of staff.

For prospective students, the LLU offers intensive English language courses (such as the Presessional Programme and the Campus English Programme) and foundation programmes to prepare for undergraduate or masters level study.

For current students, we provide a wide range of learning support services, which are open to all and are free of charge. These include insessional English courses and workshops to help improve writing and study skills (including tutorials with a Royal Literary Fund Fellow) and academic support in mathematics and the sciences.

We also offer courses in a variety of languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish.

For academic staff, through the Thinking Writing initiative we offer consultancy and support in developing the use of writing in disciplinary teaching.
